Question 3

Observe Specimens H, I, J and K carefully.

(a) State one method of propagation of each of the specimens. [2 marks]
(b) State four advantages of staking the crop from which Specimen I is obtained. [4 marks]
(c) Name the toxic substance present in specimen H and give two methods of reducing it. [3 marks]
(d) Describe the processing of specimen H into garri.  [6 marks]

OBSERVATION

This question was well attempted by the candidates.  In questions 3(a) and (b), majority of the candidates could state the methods of propagation of the specimens and state the advantages of staking in the production of specimen I (Yam tuber).

In question 3(c), most of the candidates could name the toxic substance present in specimen H (Cassava tuber) and state methods of reducing the toxic substance.

In question 3(d), majority of the candidates gave an excellent description of the processing of specimen H (cassava tuber) into garri.
