Question 1

AIM: To determine how voltages are distributed in resistor circuits according to   
        Ohm’s law.

  1. Connect the circuit as shown in Figure 1.
  2. Ask your supervisor to check the circuit connection.
  3. Copy Table 1 into your answer booklet.

  1. Set the power supply to 0 V.
  2. Close switch S1.
  3. Adjust the power supply to 2 V as shown in Table 1.
  4. Read and record the voltmeter readings V1 (V) and V2 (V) in Table 1.
  5. Open switch S1.
  6. Repeat steps (e) to (h) for other values of Vs (V)  as shown in Table 1.
  7. Complete Table 1.
  8. Comment on the results obtained from () Vs (V) and        ) Vs (V) in Table 1.

Observation

The candidates were expected to connect the circuit as shown in Fig.1, measure and record in Table 1 the, voltmeter readings, voltage calculations and comment on the results.

(k) Comment on the results obtained from VS(V) and VS(V) : The addition of the two gives the source voltage in each case.

The candidates, as reported, understood the question and carried out the actions required. But most of the candidates recorded wrong readings and were not able to make reasonable comment to show understanding of what they did. The performance was not encouraging.
