Part I Question 4

Write a congratulatory letter to your former principal who hasjust been appointed as ajudge.

_____________________________________________________________________________________________________
Observation

This is a semi-formal letter that requires two addresses, title or heading, and salutation. Candidates were expected to reflect their being old students of the principal's school in the letter and congratulate him on the new appointment, observing the rules and principles guiding letter writing.
Some candidates got it right while the majority used only one address and without a heading.
Some neither mentioned the new appointment nor congratulated the principal. By and large, poor understanding of the requirement of the question underscored candidates' poor
performance.
