Observation

Most candidates were able to:

  • state four clothing rules to be obeyed while working on a carpentry site;
  • state the use of the cross-pein hammer.

However, some candidates were unable to:

  • sketch the cross-pein hammer in pictorial view correctly;
  • state three joinery operations that are performed on a jointer.

 

The expected response to question 6 is as given below:
6.         (a)        four safety precautions in a building site:

  • wear protective apron/overall;
  • always wear a hard sole shoes when working around a building site;
  • wear helmet to protect your head from falling object;
  • wear hand gloves when lifting rough objects;
  • wear goggles when dismantling formwork.

Used for driving small nails into wood.
(c)        Three operations of a jointer:

  • Planning an edge square piece;
  • Planning the surface of timber;
  • Cutting rebates;
