Question 1

  1.  Make the test piece shown below, using the timber which has been planed to the following sizes;
    two pieces        ­­-          18 x 50 x 260 (hardwood);
     two pieces       -           18 x 50 x 510 (hardwood).
    (All dimensions are in millimeters)

Observation

Candidates were required to make mortise and tenon joints.
Few candidates were able to make the joint correctly. However, some of them were unable to cut and chop the waste correctly. 
STEP 2
Candidates were required to make briddle joint.
Most candidates were able to make the joints. However few of them were unable to chop off the waste accurately.
STEP 3
Candidates were required to make a groove.
Few candidates were able to make the groove correctly. However, majority of them failed to use the correct tool used for the groove.    
STEP 4
Candidates were required to fit all the joints in position.
Few candidates were able to assemble the pieces in position. However most of them were unable to assemble.
Each candidates final work piece was to have prepared 2 sides, prepared 2 tops, to be well assembled.
