Question 2

  1. Make the test piece shown below, using the timber which has been planed to the following sizes:  
    one piece         -           600 x 100 x 45;
    three piece       -           250 x 100 x 45.
    ( all dimensions are in millimetres )

Observation

Candidates were required to make mortise and tenon joints
Few candidates were able to make the joint correctly. However majority of them were not able cut and chop the waste correctly.
STEP 2
Candidates were required to make open mortise and cut bridle joint.
Most candidates were able to make the open mortise and cut the bridle joint. However few of them were not able to cut to correct size.
STEP 3
Candidates were required to make trench and cut a lap joint.
Most candidates were able to cut the lap joint correctly. However few of them were not able to cut the trench.
STEP 4
Candidates were required to assemble their work piece in position and give it a good finishing.
Most candidates were able to complete it. However few of them were not able to complete it.
Each candidates final work piece was to be well assembled to F frame and well dressed.
