CCANDIDATES’ WEAKNESSES AND SUGGESTED REMEDIES

The weaknesses associated with the  performance of candidates include:

• lack of understanding of the demand of the questions;
• poor mathematical skills;
• poor knowledge of electronic configuration;
• omission of important words/items in statement of laws and definitions;
• inability to answer correctly question that has to do with explanations;
• poor knowledge of solubility;
• poor knowledge of hybridization;
• poor knowledge of ionic and half cell equations.

The following remedies were however suggested:
Candidates should:

• acquire relevant textbooks;
• cover all aspects of the syllabus;
• familiarize themselves with the fundamentals of chemistry;
• learn to express themselves clearly when answering questions that required explanation;
• prepare adequately for the examination.

 

Teachers should

• improve on their teaching methods and techniques;
• be adequately remunerated.
