The weaknesses associated with performance include:
- lack of understanding of the demands of the questions;
- non-adherence to rubrics;
- poor presentation skills;
- illegible handwriting;
- spelling errors;
- inability to write chemical formulae accurately;
- poor knowledge of redox reactions;
- inability to write and balance ionic equations;
- inability to correctly define ionic bonds;
- inability to answer questions on biogas.
The following remedies were however suggested:
- candidates should familiarize themselves with the syllabus;
- candidates should acquire relevant textbooks;
- candidates should prepare adequately for the examination;
- professionals should be employed to teach the subject;
- teachers should be encourage to participate in marking coordination to
update themselves;
- teachers should ensure that students are being evaluated periodically through continuous assessment.
