  1. Draw the circuit arrangement that will convert a galvanometer to a   voltmeter.
  2. A galvanometer gives a full scale deflection (f.s.d.) of 30 mA with a voltage of 90 V. Calculate the value of the resistor required to measure a voltage of 100 V.

OBSERVATION

The expected answers were:

fd = 30 mA,  V = 90 V
(b)     100 V = VG   + VR                     
                   VR      = 100 - Vg                                
                             = (100 - 90) V
                             = 10V                            
                   I        = Ifd   = 30 mA                         
                   R        =                                        
                             =                                   
                             =
                             = 333.3    

The question was on Measuring Instruments. As reported, quite a few candidates that attempted this question got full marks.
