OBSERVATION

  1. Majority of the candidates attempted this question but they could not respond well in all the questions except the ‘c’ part of the question.  The expected answers are:

 (a)     CAUSES OF ACCIDENTS
          (ii)      Disorderliness/poor arrangement of equipment and tools.
          (iii)     Use of wrong equipment.
          (iv)     Being in a hurry/too much haste.
          (v)      Slippery floor.
          (vi)     Poor lighting and ventilation.
          (vii)    Not wearing suitable clothes and shoes.
          (viii)   Lack of concentration.
          (ix)     Oil/water spills.
          (x)      Banana/yam peels.
          (xi)     Use of bare hands to take off utensils from fire.

          (b)     POINTS TO CONSIDER WHEN SELECTING KITCHEN UTENSILS
          (i)      Financial resources/money at hand.
          (ii)      Family size.
          (iii)     Kitchen size.
          (iv)     Nature of food to be cooked
          (v)      The home maker’s experience/skills.
          (vi)     Handles should be strong to carry the weight of the container if lifted.
          (vii)    Lids should fit properly.
          (viii)   Handles of utensils should be insulated.
          (ix)     Facilities available.
          (x)      Consider the durability.
          (xi)     The materials should not tarnish or chip off easily.
          (xii)    Ease of cleaning of the utensils.
          (xiii)   The base should be flat.
                                                                                   
(c)      ITEMS IN A FIRST AID BOX
Cotton wool, assorted bandages, soap, disinfectant, iodine solution, sterile dressing, petroleum jelly, hydrogen peroxide, embrocation, liniment, pair of scissors, blades, antiseptic cream, methylated spirit, adhesive plaster, cold (compress) pack.

d (i)    DEFINITION OF ABRASIVE
An abrasive is a cleaning agent/material which is used to remove stains on surfaces
