Most of the candidates are still weak in French verb control which is the core of any essay writing. Some of them could not use the passé composé, le conditionnel and l’imparfait correctly. The verbs were wrongly conjugated and used.
Some of the candidates lacked vocabulary and since their vocabulary was limited, they could hardly write anything meaningful.
To improve on candidates performance, French teachers should be more involved in the teaching of the basic grammatical rules at each lesson. They must ensure that the students are well drilled in French verbs starting with the tenses.
They should also encourage the students to read French novels, journals and magazines to acquire more vocabulary.
