This question was attempted by many candidates and their performance in 3(a) was fair. The performance of the candidates; in Section (b) was very poor probably because of the link of question 3(b) to 3(a): The expected answers for question 3b are:
- improved technology (to solve the problem of low level of technology)
- training and retraining (to solve the problem of inadequate skilled labour)
- focal sourcing of spare parts (to solve the problem of inadequate spare parts) .
- securing loans from banks (to solve the problem of inadequate capital)
- installation of navigation aids (to solve the problem of bad weather conditions) etc.
Question (3c) which required the candidates to explain the way transportation contributes to the economic development of any country was well answered by the candidates.
