This was a very popular question among the candidates. The performance of the candidates in the question was moderate. Some of the candidates misinterpreted types of rural settlement to be types of settlement.

The types of rural settlements include:

- homestead
- farmstead
- hamlet
- village
Many were able to correctly define rural settlement as a small settlement containing a few people who are engaged in primary activities such as agriculture, lumbering, fishing and hunting.
