(a) Draw a sketch map of Africa.
On the map show and name;
(i)  two oil producing areas;
(ii) one town in each ofthe areas in (a)(i) above.

(b) Highlight any three contributions of oil to the economic development of one of the areas shown in (a)(i) above.

(c) Describe any three problems affecting the mining of petroleum in one of the areas shown in (a)(i) above.

Observation

This question was not popular among the candidates. The map aspect of the question was poorly handled by most of the candidates that attempted the question. The (b) part of the question which demanded for contributions of oil to the economic development of the area was well handled by the candidates.The problems affecting the mining of petroleum was poorly handled by the candidates. The expected answers included:

- inadequate capital to exploit the minerals
- environmental pollution
- destruction of aquatic ecosystem constant
- conflict with the indigenous people
- price fluctuation at the world market
- high rate of sabotage by the people within the mining areas
- poor management
- inadequate trained personnel
- high cost of production
- outdated topographical maps
- poor transport network.
