Question 6

Outline six functions of the Emir in the Hausa/Fulani traditional political system.

Observation

This was a very popular and straightforward question. Majority of those that attempted the question scored good marks because they knew the demands of the question and gave valid points. However, some few weak candidates derailed. They wrote on the Hausa/Fulani Emirate instead of the functions of the Emir.
Although the overall candidates' performance was still very good despite this shortcoming.
Some of the functions of the Emir expected from candidates included:
made laws;
appointed other officials in the Emirate;
presided over the Emir's court;
entered into treaties with other Emirates;
preserved the culture of his people, etc.
