_____________________________________________________________________________________________________
Observation

This question was not a popular one as few candidates attempted it. Some of those who attempted it failed woefully. They were able to list few political  developments but scored low marks because of poor articulation of points,
factual errors and skimpy answers. The candidates were expected to give the
following points:

  1. (January 15, 1966) Nigeria had a military bloody coup d’etat during which some politician and some senior military officers were assassinated;
  2. (January 16, 1966) The President of the senate, Dr. Nwafor Orizu, handed over the government of Nigeria to the Nigeria Armed Forces through the GOC of the Nigerian Army Major-General J.T.U. Aguiyi Ironsi;
  3. A  Supreme Military Council was formed and headed by General J.T.U. Aguiyi Ironsi;
  4. The government suspended the 1963 Constitution and banned all political parties;
  5. Military personnels were appointed to govern the regions.
