Observation

(a) Candidates were required to explain the importance of peace in a particular society. In doing that, they are expected to define peace and mention various developments that occur as a result of peaceful co-existence in a society. Peace brings about:

  • Educational development.
  • Economic development.
  • Inter-marriage among different ethnic groups.
  • Elimination of hunger and poverty.
  • Elimination of terrorism.
  • Good Inter-personal relationship.
  • Good governance.
  • Candidates’ performance in this question was encouraging.

    (b) This is an expository essay and the candidates were expected to write on various ways of reducing flooding in a particular area. In attempting the question, candidates were required to explain the term ‘flood’ and then proffer ways of reducing it.
    Thus, some ways of reducing flooding include:

  • To stop building houses on the water ways
  • Building of more culverts in the town
  • Creating public awareness on the dangers of flooding
  • Mounting campaign against dumping of refuse in the culvert
  • Planting of trees
  • Maintaining  the master plan of the town, etc.
  • Few candidates attempted the question and their performance was fair.

    (c)The question above is an argumentative essay, it sought the opinion of candidates as regards   the importance of either civil service or business. In attempting the question, candidates were expected to take a position and advance reasons for that.

    (d) Above is a letter writing.  The candidates were expected to write an informal letter using the following format.

  • Address of the writer
  • Salutation
  • Content
  • Conclusion
  •  

    The content of the letter may include the following among others:

  • Erection of a new market that has many shops.
  • Improvement in health care delivery to the people through the building of a general hospital.
  • Building of a  new Secondary School with a well equipped library.
  • Installation of a big transformer to boost power supply in the town.
  • Building of a Police station and deployment of police personel to boost security.
  • Building of a dam to improve water supply and farming activities, etc.
  •  

         Many candidates attempted the question and their performance was commendable.

    (e) The statement above is a proverb.  Candidates were required to give meaning, narrate a story that will end with the proverb and further identify other proverbs of its equivalence, for example:

  • Tun da zafi-zafi akan daki karfe.
  • Ba a fafe gora ranar tafiya.
  • Kayan shiga ruwa tun daga tudu ake shirya su
  • Kula da kaya ya fi ban cigiya.
  •
