This question was attempted by many candidates and their performance was poor. In part
(a) candidates could not correctly name the parts labelled I to VI. In part (b) candidates
could not correctly state functions of the parts labelled I and III. In part(c) candidates could
not also mention types of mental illness that could affect the brain.
The expected answers were as follows:
3(a) Naming the parts labelled

I cerebral hemisphere/cerebrum
II mid-brain
III cerebellum
IV medulla oblongata
V spinal cord
VI pituitary body/gland

(b) Functions of the parts labelled I and III Function of I
expression of emotion
for reasoning ability/association of ideas
for intelligence.and memory recall/thinking
controls conscious voluntary actions/vision, taste, touch/speech.

It assists in balance/equilibrium
It assists in coordination of movement/muscular activities
