    (a)     (i)    Make a large drawing of the hip joint and label fully.                    [8 marks]
               (ii)    Name three types of synovial joint.                                                [3 marks]

              (iii)    Outline three properties of muscles.                                               [3 marks]

              (iv)    Differentiate between the point of origin and the point of insertion of a
                        muscle.                                                                                            [2 marks]

      (b)   Outline four disorders associated with muscles and joints.                      [4marks]

OBSERVATION

This question was attempted by many candidates and the candidate performance was fairly good.
                                                                                                                                           
In part (a)(i) candidates were not able to draw the required diagram properly.  In part (a)(iv) candidates were not able to differentiate between the point of origin and the point of insertion of a muscle, neither were they able to outline four disorders associated with muscles and joints as demanded in part (b).The expected answers were as follows:

3(a)(i)  Diagram of Hip joint

            (iv)       Point of origin
                        The point of origin is the point of attachment of a muscle to a rigid bone.

                        Point of Insertion
                        The point of insertion is the point of attachment of a muscle to a movable
                        bone.

(b)        Disorders of the muscles and joints
-     Gout/muscle pull/muscle spasm
            -     Rheumatism/Arthritis
            -     Paralysis
            -     Muscle atrophy
            -     Fibrositis
