Question 1

(a) (i) What is health?
(ii) State three consequences of a well ventilated room.
(b) Explain the following terms.
     (i)    Pollutant;
     (ii)   Artificial ventilation;
     (iii)   Sanitation.

This question was attempted by many candidates and the candidates' performance was fairly good.

In part (a)(i) candidates that answered the question misinterpreted consequences of a well ventilated room to mean disadvantages of a well ventilated room.

The expected answers were as follows:

Consequences of a well ventilated room

- stale air is replaced by fresh air in the room;
- suitable temperature/relative humidity is maintained promotes good health
- occupants feel comfortable
- hinders the spread of diseases
