This was another very popular question. Majority of the candidates who attempted the question were able to name the military ruler such as Major General J. T. Agulyl Ironsi, General Yakubu Gowon, General Murtala Mohammed, General olusegun Obasanjo, Major general Mohammad Buhari and General Ibrahim Babangida.

In the 'b' part however most of the candidates did not take cognizance of the date and so gave
Irrelevant reasons .

The few good candidates gave some of the following reasons to score! high marks:
(i)Controversial 1962 national census;
(ii)The influence of Togo military Coup d'etat;
(iii)Action Group crisis which led to state of erner9.ency In Western Region;
(iv)The issue of bribery and corruption;
(v)The minority groups were dissatisfied e.g. the TIV;
(vi)Tribalism and nepotism - only people with the right connection were employed or promoted In government etc.
