Candidates' weakness/remedies

Candidates’ weaknesses were observed in these areas:

  1. Majority of the candidates were unable to write up to the required number of pages and words. i.e. 2½ pages and 300 words respectively.
  1. Literature Texts – Some candidates found it difficult answering questions on the literature texts. This simply attested to the fact that they did not read the prescribed set-books.

  1. Candidates used their religious experience to answer questions on customs and institutions.
  1. Some candidates wrote illegibly.

         SUGGESTED REMEDIES

    • Teachers should let the students know the actual length required on the essay writing and also intimate them of its contribution to their marks beforehand.
    • Teachers should instruct students to buy the recommended literature texts to enable them prepare well for the examination.
    • Teachers should drill the student on how to write official letters, bearing in mind the general format and content.
    • Nigerian languages should be made compulsory in schools so as to change  the students’ attitude towards this subject.
