Candidates were to discuss the instances of gender discrimination in the novel through the different treatments given to male and female characters in the novel. Such as the relationship between husbands and wives, fathers and daughters vis-a-vis sons and also relate these to the issues of marriage, child bearing, occupation and education. How the male superiority overrides the female, instances must be drawn from the characters and events in the text. Many candidates attempted the question and performed well.
