(b) (i) State four rules guiding kick-off in football game

(ii) State the condition under which a comer kick is awarded during a football match. [2 marks]

(c) Explain briefly what makes a referee to award each of the following hits in a game of hockey:
(i) short-comer;
(ii) goal-hit;
(iii) push-in.

Observation

This question was attempted by many candidates and their performance was fair. In part (a) (i) few candidates named the facility illustrated; In (a) (ii) candidates could not name correctly the parts labelled. However, few that named the part labelled named it wrongly and in (a)(iii) many candidates correctly mentioned the number of players form a playing team in the game that uses the facility illustrated. In part (b )(i) candidates could not state correctly rules guiding kick-off in football game and in (b) (ii) candidates correctly stated the condition under which a comer kick is awarded during a football match. In part ( c) candidates could not explain what makes a referee to award short comer, goal-hit and push-in in a game of hockey

The expected answers were as follows:
(a)(i) Name of the game
Handball

(ii) Naming the parts labelled
I goal line
II goal area line/6 metre line
III free throw line/9 metre line
IV substitute Zone/area
V   centre mark/circle
VI penalty line/mark 7 metre

(iii) Number of playing team
7 players

(b)(i) Rules guiding kick-off in football game
- ball is placed stationary on the centre line mark/spot.
- every player must remain in hislher own half of the pitch until the ball is kicked.
- the opposing player must remain at a distance of 9 .15m away from the ball until kick is taken.
- the ball must travel its circumference to be in play
- the player that kicked the ball must not kick it a second time until it has
- been touched/kicked by another player
- a goal can be scored directly from a kick off
- the referee must blow the whistle before the kick-off is taken

(ii) Condition under which a comer kick is awarded during a football match
when the whole of the ball passes over the goal line having last been played/touched by a defending player.

(c) Instances when a referee awards each of the following hits in a game of hockey
(i) Short comer
Awarded when the whole of the ball goes over the goal line off a defender's sticklbody/explained.

(ii) Goal hit
Awarded when an attacker hits the ball over the end line/goal line of the opposing team

(iii) Push-in
Awarded when the ball completely goes over the side line/touch line
