(a)       Mention the ball games in which each of the following skills could be used:
            (i)        set shot;
            (ii)       pivot shot;
            (iii)      short comer;
            (iv)      blocking. [4 marks]

(b)State:
(i) four duties of the scorer in a volleyball match. [4 marks]
(ii) four faults which could be committed by a player during a volleyball match.[4 marks]

(c)       Explain each of the following terms as used in volleyball game
            (i)        double contact;
           (ii)       hand over;
           (iii)      ball in;
           (iv)      time-out. [8 marks]

Observation

This question was attempted by many candidates and their performance was poor. In part (a) many candidates could not correctly mention the ball games in which (i) set shot, (ii) pivot shot, (iii) short comer; (iv) blocking could be used? In part (b)(i) candidates could not also state duties of the scorer in a volleyball match, in (b )(ii), candidates could not state faults which could be committed by a player during a volleyball match.

In part (c) candidates could not correctly explain (i) double contact; (ii) hand-over; (iii) ball-in; (iv) time-out.

The expected answers were as follows:
5 (a) Ball games in which each of the following skills could be used
            (i)        set shot          - basketball
            (ii)      pivot snot - handball
           (iii) short comer - hockey game
            (iv)      blocking        - volleyball.
(b )(i) Duties of scorer in a volleyball match
- he takes the names of players and their number of team substitutes, captain and coaches
- takes note of time-out, substitution
- notifies the referee on violation of the rotational rules
- furnishes the referee relevant information as the need arises
- keeps the score sheet/records scores
- records the number and name of the libero player
- indicates/announces the correct score.
- receives team sheet from the Coaches.

(b )(ii) Faults which could be committed by a player during volleyball match
- hold/catch the ball
- palming/carrying the ball
- double contact
- wrong positioning/rotation foul of player
- back court player spiking in the front court
- player takes support to reach the ball
- block the opponent from seeing the server
- stepping on line during service
- stepping on centre line
- hitting the ball more than 3 consecutives times by a team
- touches the net with any part of the body during play
(c) Explanation of each of the terms in volleyball game
(i) Double contact: This is when a player touches the ball twice or more
(ii) Hand-over: The player stretching hand over the net to hit the ball on opponent's court
(iii) Ball-in: The ball is 'in' when it touches the floor of the playing court including the boundary lines
(iv) Time-out: An interruption/pause of the game on request/explained
