Observation

TThis question was attempted by many candidates and their performance was poor.  In part (a) many candidates correctly state ways in which badminton and table tennis games are similar.  In part (b) many candidates could not correctly explain ace and lob as terms in tennis game. In part (c) many candidates could not correctly state features of racket games.  In part(d) many candidates could not explain the procedure for delivering service in table tennis game.
However, the expected answers were as follows:
6. (a)    SIMILARITIES BETWEEN BADMINTON AND TENNIS GAME
-      both are racket games                                                                                                     
-      have the same number of players
-      use the same type of dress/sport outfit
        played by both sexes

  • both played on courts
  • both have nets dividing the court into two halves
  • both are started with a service
  • have officials who announces the points                                                                                                                                    

 (b)       EXPLANATION OF THE FOLLOWING TERMS IN TENNIS GAME
            (i)    ACE
        A service that completely eludes/escapes the receiver/explained          

 

(ii)  LOB
A ball played high above a net such that the ball drops on the court near                                      base line
                                                           
  (c)      FEATURES OF RACKET GAME
            -      they are dual games/explained

  • they involve the use of net and racket
  • they are non-contact game
  • they are started with a service
  • playing a ball/shuttlecock over net
  • they are played on court
  • they have officials who announce the points

 (d)      PROCEDURE FOR DELIVERING SERVICE IN TABLE TENNIS GAME

  • the ball is placed on the palm of the free hand
  • the ball is tossed/thrown up/projected upward
  • struck with the bat
  • ball crossed the net to land on opponent’s side of the table
  • under arm service is used in badminton game
