General Comments

The standard of the papers (alternatives 1A & 1B) compared favourably with those of the previous years. The demand of the questions were well within the experience of the candidates and were within the scope of the syllabus. The questions were set in simple and comprehensible language to ease understanding. The paper tested candidates ability to

- Set-up simple experiments

- Carry out the experiments

- Collect and analyse data

- Make deductions from the data obtained

- Show understanding of the theories behind the experiment

The rubric were clear and the marking schemes were comprehensive and flexible. The performance of the candidates was poorer than that of last year. The candidature of 636,924 had a raw mean score of 24 and a standard deviation of 08.89 compared to a raw mean score of 30 and a standard deviation of 9.95 in the May/June 2012 WASSCE with a population of 624,645.
