Question 1

A stone projected horizontally from the top of a tower with a speed of 4 ms-1 lands on the level ground at a horizontal distance of 25 m from the foot of the tower. Calculate the height  of the tower.
                                [ g = 10 ms-2 ]

Observation

This is a two-dimensional horizontal projectile problem. Most candidates demonstrated familiarity with the question. It was well attempted. The expected answer is
            t = d/v                                                                  R = U[2H/g]½
            =25/4  = 6.25s                  OR                   H =
            H = ½ gt2
                 = ½ x 10 x (25/4)2                                      =(252 * 10)/(2*42)
            = 195.3m                                                         = 195.3m
