Shorthand May/June 2015

Candidates' Weaknesses

Some of the weaknesses observed in the candidates’ scripts were:

  1. Writing of the dictated passages in longhand instead of shorthand.
  2. Wrong placement of shorthand outlines which made it hard for them to transcribe what they jotted down.
  3. Poor spelling and wrong use of words.

SUGGESTED REMEDIES

  1. Theory of shorthand should be taught and learnt by the candidates so as to improve on the placement of shorthand outlines.
  2. Candidates should focus on drilling with use of short forms, phrases and contractions in shorthand so as to improve their speed.
  3. Candidates should improve on their spelling and correct usage of English Language so as to avoid making grammatical errors.
