The weaknesses noticed in candidates’ work included:
(1) non adherence to the rubrics;
(2) inaccurate representation of the objects being drawn;
(3) poor shading technique and inability to use shading to indicate source of
light;
(4) poor relative proportion of parts of objects drawn;
(5) working space not used adequately;
(6) failure to indicate baseline;
(7) poor arrangement of objects.
To overcome some of these weaknesses, it is suggested that:
(a) more time be devoted to practical drawing and sketching;
(b) art should be taught by qualified, trained art teachers;
(c) candidates should be exposed to quality works of art through exhibitions, visit to art galleries and museums.
