Question 1

1.Make the test piece shown on page 2, using the timber which has been planned to the following sizes (all dimensions are in millimetres):

Two pieces ― 140 x 100 x 15;
Two pieces ― 110 x 100 x 15;
one piece plywood ― 140 x 100 x 6;
one piece plywood ― 110 x 67 x 6.
3 No. countersink head wood screws 12 x 4

Observation

STEP 1
Candidates were required to make two through dovetail joints. Majority of the candidates were able to identify the joint. However, the cutting and chiselling out of the waste were poorly done. Each candidate’s final work piece was to have 6 tails (12 pitches, 12 sides, 8 shoulders) and 6 sockets (12 sides, 6 bottoms and fitness of two joints)
