Observation

Most candidates were able to state the precautions to be taken while using the given items.
However,they were unable to:
-name the woodwork machine on which each of the devices is found;
-name the two safety devices used on the circular saw bench;
-state the function of the two parts of the circular saw bench given.

The expected response to question 2 is as given below::
(a)Precautions to be taken

(i)Oilstones
-should be fitted in wooden boxes with lids
-should be lubricated intermittently when in use
-Do not sharpen only in the middle
-Keep dry when not in use.

(ii)Screws
-Ensure that the screwdriver blades fit into the slots of the screws properly.
-Ensure that the appropriate size of pilot hole is made before using screw.
-Use the right saw for the right job/purpose.
(iii) Handsaws
-Oil regularly
-Ensure that blunt saws are sharpened before use
-Use the right saw for the right job/purpose.

(b)Naming Woodwork machines
(i)Crown guard – circular saw bench/dimension saw
(ii)Chipbreaker – Mortiser
(iii)Bridge guard – surface planer
(iv)Thrust wheel – Bandsaw
(v)Tailstock – wood lathe
