(a)       Sketch each of the following types of widening joint:
                        (i)         dowelled joint;
                        (ii)        loose tongued and grooved joint.

            (b)       List in sequence the five steps involved in finishing a glasspapered
                        piece of timber with lacquer using a hand brush.

Observation

 

Most candidates were able to sketch:

  • dowelled joint correctly;
  • loose tongued and grooved joint correctly.

However, they were unable to list the steps involved in finishing a
glasspapered piece of timber with lacquer using a hand brush.

(b)       Steps in finishing a glass papered piece of timber

            -           Apply sanding sealer.
            -           Rub down/cut down/flatten
            -           Apply first coat or lacquer.
