Candidates' weakness/remedies


The candidates’ weaknesses include:

  1. Inability to write extensively on the chosen essay titles. They wrote far below the required 300 words;
  2. Inability to approach argumentative essay properly. They did not balance their arguments;
  3. Inability to use tone-marks correctly;
  4. Carelessness as regards the use of modern Yoruba orthography;
  5. Inability to write good Yoruba and correct spellings of terms;
  6. Lack of in-depth knowledge of the recommended textbooks;
  7. Inability to indicate the question numbers attempted and in some cases they were incorrectly written;
  8. Illegible handwriting;
  9. Carelessness and lack of knowledge of appropriate use of punctuation marks;
  10. Lack of in-depth knowledge or poor background in phonology.

 

    • SUGGESTED REMEDIES
    • Teachers should endeavour to address all these identified weaknesses from the beginning of students’ course in secondary school;
    • Parents and students should be encouraged to buy the recommended textbooks;
    • Candidates should imbibe the habit of studying the set text;
    • The use of Yoruba as a means of communication should be encouraged.
