Most candidates were able to describe non-load bearing internal wall and the load bearing internal wall.
However, many candidates failed to state correctly, the stages involved in fixing a door frame during the construction of a sandcrete blockwall.
The expected response to question 1 is as given below:
(a) Stages involved in fixing a door frame during the construction of a sandcrete blockwall are:
(i) select the frame and check for squareness;
(ii) fix galvanized metal fastenings or fixing lugs or large size nail to the back of the frame to match the block courses;
(iii) set the frame in position, plumb, level and brace it with struts;
(iv) build the fastenings into the block joints;
(v) check the alignment of the frame on the wall;
(vi) lay courses of blockwork around the frame
(b) (i) Non-load bearing internal wall: This wall divides the internal
space of the building and it supports it self-weight.
(ii) Load Bearing Internal Wall: This wall acts as a vertical divider offloor space of a building and in doing so accepts and transmit structural loads to its foundation.
