Few candidates were able to name the statutory personnel in a construction team.
However,majority of the candidates were unable to :
- state the difference between plastering and rendering;

list the stages involved in applying a three-coat render to a sandcrete blockwall;
state defects of painting.
The expected response to question 4 is as given below:
4 (a) Plastering is the application of finishes to the internal surfaces of the wall.
It provides a smooth and level surface while rendering is the application of
finishes to external wall surfaces. The rendering protects the external wall
against moisture penetration. It also enhances the building’s appearance.
(b) Stages of rendering:
(i) Preparation of the background.
(ii) Mixing of rendering materials.
(iii) Applying the 1st coat and providing key for next coat.
(iv) Applying the 2nd coat and providing key for the finishing coat.
(v) Applying the the final coat and finishing the surface.
(vi) Protecting the finished surface against damage.
(c) Defects of painting:
(i) Blooming (ii) Chalking (iii) Peeling/flaking
(iv) Efflorescence (v) Saponification (vi) Crazing
(vii) Cracking (viii) Staining (ix) Bleeding.
