Most candidates were able to:
- state the functions of a door;
- sketch the elevation of a two-panel door;
- explain what is meant by rise in relation to stair construction.
However, some candidates drew four panels instead of two panels stated in the question.
The expected response to question 4 is given below:
A door –
- provides means of access to the spaces or rooms in a building;
- accords privacy to the occupants of a building;
- provides security to occupants and their properties;
- excludes or protects the occupants of a building from wind or driving rain.

(c) (i) Headroom is the clear space of about 2 metres measured
vertically from the line of nosings of a stair to the soffit of another stair, landing or floor above it.
(ii) Flight of steps consist uninterrupted series of steps between two floors or between a floor and a landing or between two landings.
(iii) Rise is the vertical distance between two successive treads.
