Candidates’ performance was affected by the following weaknesses:
- inadequate preparation for the examination;
- poor communication skills;
- inability to use the required technical terms;
- lack of in depth knowledge of the prescribed syllabus;
- poor knowledge of some concepts e.g. the application of nuclear reactions in generating electricity; properties of metal (para-magnetic materials);

The following remedies were however suggested to overcome these weaknesses:

- teachers should endeavour to give more drilling exercises to candidates;
- teachers to improve on their teaching methods and techniques;
- teachers should be adequately remunerated.
