CCANDIDATES’ WEAKNESSES AND SUGGESTED REMEDIES
The weaknesses associated with the performance of candidates include:
- lack of understanding of the demand of the questions;
- poor mathematical skills;
- poor knowledge of electronic configuration;
- omission of important words/items in statement of laws and definitions;
- inability to answer correctly question that has to do with explanations;
- poor knowledge of solubility;
- poor knowledge of hybridization;
- poor knowledge of ionic and half cell equations.
The following remedies were however suggested:
Candidates should:
- acquire relevant textbooks;
- cover all aspects of the syllabus;
- familiarize themselves with the fundamentals of chemistry;
- learn to express themselves clearly when answering questions that required explanation;
- prepare adequately for the examination.
Teachers should
- improve on their teaching methods and techniques;
- be adequately remunerated.
