The candidates were required to read the passage and summarize the importance of speech in five sentences. Some candidates were able to do this but it was obvious that a lot of them had problems separating main ideas from details.
The passage must be well understood before candidates can tackle questions on it successfully. Candidates are expected to understand what the writer tries to convey and summarize it in their own words. Lifting portions of the set passage verbatim without regard to the demands of the questions asked is far from summary writing.
