Many candidates understood neither the passages nor the questions. Their style
of answering questions was to pick up a key word from the question (e.g."superintendent" in 6(b), "surprised" in 7(a) and then copied verbatim from the
passages any sentence that contains the key word.
Candidates should be taught the difference between "clauses" and "phrases", as
well as their functions in sentences. They should learn to attach the right
meanings to words so as to be able to suggest correct synonyms for the words in
the vocabulary tests
