(b) State two functions of a nutritionist
(c) List eight careers in Foods and Nutrition.

Observation

Generally question one which was on nutrients, nutritionists' careers in Foods and Nutrition was the candidates strengths as they were able to master the question very well and answered them well. Most candidates who could express themselves were able to state the correct answers.

 (a) Nutrients are the chemical substances which after consumption, digestion and absorption by the body produce energy, promote growth and repair of tissues and regulates all the body processes.

(b)  Functions of a Nutrionists
(i) Helps to choose and prepare balanced meals
(ii) Helps to modify/change dietary behaviours of individuals in the family for better health.
(iii)  Gives advice on healthy eating habits.

  • Educates on alternative food sources.

(c)  Foods and Nutrition

Teaching, dietetics, community nutrition, food research, catering, institutional matron, food technology, food science, diet therapy, food journalism, food photography, waiter/waitress.

  • Function of the Careers

Teaching: To teach the students Foods and Nutrition

Dietics: Working in the hospital as dietician to help patients who need diet therapy.
 
Community Nutrition: Working in villages and rural areas to help people on how To manage their diet.

Food Research and Development: To discover new recipes and modify oldones. Catering: Prepare and sell meals for profit

Institutional Matron: They plan and supervise the cooking and serving of meals in institutions.

Food Technology: Processing and preservation of food and research on food.
