(1) Candidates performed poorly in the Reading segment. Majority of the candidates could not articulate words like Reveille, case, bouteille, gorge, certificat, cerveau. French words were wrongly pronounced.
Some of the candidates pronounced French words that were spelt like
English words with English pronunciation, for example certificat, case etc. The rule of liaison was not observed where necessary.
(2) In Dialogue & Exposition, due to poor knowledge of grammatical structure and inadequate acquisition of the language skills, candidates could not express themselves fluently in French.
SUGGESTED REMEDIES
(1) Teachers of French should endeavor to run practice sessions in all aspects of the Oral French with the students before the examination.
(2) They should encourage the students to give their responses in French
during classes. They should expose the students to more drills on spoken I
French I
(3) Candidates should be encouraged to read French novels and journals to I -
acquire more vocabulary.
(4) Teachers should be more involved in the teaching of the basic grammatical rules at each lesson. |
