Two functions f and g are defined on the set R of real numbers by f : x → x + 1 , x ≠ 2 and g : x → kx + 3 , x ≠ 0 x – 2 x
(a) Find f-1, the inverse of f. (b) Given that gof-1(4) = 6, find the value of k.
This question was well attempted by most candidates and majority were able to derive the inverse function. However, they should know that the boundary condition x ≠1 is part of the solution. Many candidates did not include it.
