Candidates’  weaknesses were observed in these areas:
                        
                          (1)Content  – Some candidates were unable to write up to the required number of pages and  words. i.e. 2½ pages and 300 words respectively.  Some did not make good use of the punctuation  marks and the diacritic mark (.).
                        
                        
                          (2)Lack  of in-depth knowledge of the Language – Some candidates could not explain the  terms given to them. This showed that they lacked good knowledge of the  language. 
                        
              
                        
                          (3)Literature  Texts – Some candidates found it difficult to answer questions on the  literature texts.  This simply attested  to the fact that they did not read the prescribed textbooks.
						  
						  SUGGESTED REMEDIES
                          (1)Candidates  should always practise essay writing at their convenient times making use of  dots where necessary to bring out the required understanding and meaning of  their essays. This will help in preparing them adequately for the examination.  Teachers should equally organize competitions  in proverbs and reward winners.
                        
                        
                          (2)Candidates  should endeavour to learn how to speak and write the language by listening to  Igbo educative programmes and by reading Igbo novels and journals.
                        
                         
                        
                          (3)Candidates  should equip themselves with the prescribed textbooks to 
                        
                        enable them prepare well for the  examinations.
