Observation

This question was attempted my majority of the candidates. Candidates were required to identify a sewing machine and to state three of its functions and how it can be maintained. Overall performance in this question was fairly good. Candidates’ were able to identify the sewing machine and to state its functions but few of them could not give satisfactory answers on ways the machine can be maintained. Candidates were expected to provide the following to score maximum marks in this question.
(a)      The object drawn above is a sewing machine.
(b)(i)   for sewing/stitching leather.
(ii)      for decorating leather.
(iii)     for selecting stitch type, seam etc.
(iv)     for reinforcing button holes.
(v)      for attaching ornaments.

(c)(i)    cleaning and dusting regularly.
(ii)   covering after usage.
(iii)   changing thread when due.
(iv)   applying oil(lubricating)
(v)    servicing regularly.
(vi) changing worn out parts.
(vii)    adhering to instructions in the manual.
(viii)  proper use of the machine.
