The society is presented as a morally decadent one. The decline of values is viewed through the king who usurps power of the church and also Richard Rich betrayal of Thomas More. The king's attitude debases honour and his officers were interested in their positions and were in support of his actions.
The decline of values is also display in the ordinary citizen represented by the woman who gave a silver cup as gift to prevent justice.
Many candidates that attempted this question merely gave a narration of the story line. They did not do justice to it.
