The inadequacies in the performance of candidates were attributed to the following identified weaknesses:
- inability to convert the raw values using the given scale factors;
- inability to use appropriate coordinates to evaluate the slopes of their graphs;
- matching of points on graphs;
- lack of adequate theoretical knowledge to answer the short structured questions;
- non adherence to given instructions e.g. starting a graph from origin (0.0)
- inability to express their answers in standard form;
- poor communicative expressions;
- poor computational skill;
- inability to define some basic concepts.
The suggested remedies were as follows:
- Physics teachers should be encouraged to attend coordination meetings to help them become better experienced.
- Candidates should prepare more adequately for examinations.
- Schools should establish enough practical works for candidates.
- Ministries of Education should organize workshops in collaboration with WAEC especially in Science, Mathematics and English Language.
- There should be adequate coverage of Physics curriculum by teachers before examinations.
- Candidates should develop better reading habits.
