A good number of candidates were attracted to this question. However, most of their attempts were partial, as most candidates answered the (a) component, neglecting the (b) component. The few that attempted the (b) component could not link colour theory to Sir. Isaac Newton.

The discovery of colour
It was discovered by Sir Isaac Newton (2 marks).
In 1660, Isaac Newton discovered that when a beam of white light is passed through a prism and is reflected into a white screen, the light is broken down in the spectrum colours i.e. Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo and Violet (ROYGBIV).
