Few candidates did very well in this question. However, they failed to name the view (front elevation). Candidates were expected to show:
- the padded seat;
- the frame with top rails, legs, bottom rail and stretcher;
- the joints for the framing;
- member, size and location of dimensions.
(b) Sectional end elevation:
Few candidates did very well in this question. However, they failed to indicate the dimension of the internal members. Candidates were expected to show the:
- covering i.e. one thick line;
- padding in section;
- platform in section;
- top rails in section and elevation;
- legs in elevation;
- bottom rails in section and elevation;
- stretcher;
- dimension of the exposed internal members;
- indicate the cutting plane on the front elevation.
(c) The plan with the seat removed:
Few candidates attempted this question correctly. However, most of them failed to indicate the dimension of the exposed members. Candidates were expected to :
- locate the view at the bottom of the front elevation;
- show four legs in section;
- show four rails in elevation;
- show method of fixing the top;
- dimension the exposed members;
- indicate “plan with top removed” at the bottom.
